If a home page isn't set on the BCM folder, you'll get this error message when trying to click on the any BCM folder that uses dashboards to display folder contents (which are most of the pages).
Business Contact Manager for Outlook could not complete your last action or action. Please try again.
Users with the database on a remote machine will receive the following error message.
"Business Contact Manager encountered a critical error during startup and will be removed from this profile.."
This error began with the Outlook update released on October 10, 2017. The security update removed the Home Page tab from all folders, in an effort to increase security. Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2010 are affected, Outlook 2007 should be Ok as it no longer receives updates.
The fix: add a registry key to re-enable home pages.
Remember: if a registry key doesn't exist, you'll need to create it!
Outlook 2013
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Security DWORD: EnableRoamingFolderHomepages Value: 1
Outlook 2010
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security DWORD: EnableRoamingFolderHomepages Value: 1
I've added the key but after the latest update to outlook KB4018314 it is still having issues. Also i'm curious--where exactly do you go to pull up the homepage tab? none of my outlook folders have if with or without the registry key.
If you don't see the home page tabs in Properties for any folder, I'm guessing the key is not set correctly. Did you use the reg file or create the key yoursaelf? (Try the reg file.)
Thanks for being a plus sign on the planet. You've made a positive difference with a real solution.
Thank you so much for helping us keep BCM running. I have been using this program since the very first version and despite the issues and the lack of commitment from MS, i still find it the best tool on the market for what i do.
Thank you for this!!. It worked for me. After a few hours support from MS, they could not solve this problem. Its a shame !
I used the button "Do it for me". Its not clear to me how to make a key in registry
Thanks!
Thanks for this. I’ve been puzzled by this ever since the October update. I use BCM everyday in my business and had to do a restore of my computer to be able to access my data. I will try this solution. I apologize for my ignorance but where do I add the registry key text? Thanks!
The easiest way is to choose your version of outlook in 'do it for me' and run the reg file, otherwise, browse to this path (with the correct version #) in the registry editor.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security and add that key.
Dear Diane,
Your help was invaluable!
Thank you!
