iCloud error: Outlook isn't configured to have a default profile
Many users are reporting problems configuring iCloud in Outlook on brand new computers. When they check the box for Mail, Contacts, Calendars the receive the following error message:
"Setup can't continue because Outlook isn't configured to have a default profile. Check your Outlook settings and try again."
The users typically have one profile, it’s set as the default, Outlook is set as the default. Everything should be working.
We know the problem is caused by having the Windows Store version of Office preinstalled and installing the Click to run version from Office.com. (Note: iCloud and most add-ins will not work with the store version at this time. You need to install the click to run version from Office.com)
After weeks of investigating, there is a workaround.
Installing the current version of Office from office.com should remove the store version, but to insure it is removed, run these cmdlets:
Open PowerShell in run as admin mode then paste:
Get-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online | where-object {$_.packagename –like "*Outlook*"} | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online
Then:
Get-AppxPackage "*Outlook*" | Remove-AppxPackage
Close the PowerShell window and open it without using run as admin. Run this command:
Get-AppxPackage "*Outlook*" | Remove-AppxPackage
Next, set icloud.exe to run in Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 Compatibility mode.
To do this, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Internet Services, locate icloud.exe, then right click on it and choose Properties. Switch to the Compatibility tab and enable compatibility mode.
Now try enabling iCloud to sync Calendar and Contacts.
Snooze 5 minutes before start is missing?
A user complained that Outlook’s reminder dialog no longer offers ‘5 minutes before start’ time. While it could be a bug in the build he has, I’m unable to repro in my Office 2016 installations and other users aren’t complaining about it, so it’s likely to be a misunderstanding over how the feature works.
The snooze choices of "5 minutes before start", "10 minutes before start", and "15 minutes before start" are present in each version of Outlook I checked but they are context-sensitive. You’ll only see them if there is at least 5, 10, or 15 minutes before the appointment start time. If it’s less than 5 minutes before start, you’ll have "0 hours before start" as the only ‘before start’ option. At 11 minutes before start, you'll have both the 5 minute and 10 minute before start option. Once the appointment is in the overdue range, you’ll only see the standard snooze times (5 minutes, 10 minutes… 2 weeks).
Tip: If you want to use a non-standard snooze (or reminder) time, you can type it in the field. You’ll need to type it in full, eg "17 minutes", and can’t set custom "before start" reminders.
The (good) Autocomplete list is gone
An Administrator had a very valid complaint:
My users were happy with the autocomplete feature in Outlook. At least they were before. They aren’t happy with the new "recent people" feature. How can we bring back the old autocomplete list format?
You aren’t alone in your dislike of the new autocomplete list. Yes, it’s nice to see some pictures next to names, but with only 5 names on the list, its limiting and users need to type more of a name out to bring up the autocorrect entry they are looking for. It's also buggy and hard to remove from the Suggested section.
Unfortunately, as of right now, you can’t revert to the old list format but you can vote to bring it back at Uservoice.
Please revert (or give the option to revert) the changes made to the Outlook autocomplete email address list. (It needs a lot of votes!)
