ReliefJet Essentials for Outlook is a set of more than 160 tools for performing a wide range of tasks in Outlook: processing email messages, contacts, appointments, meetings, tasks and other Outlook items.
Today's Highlights
- Show or Hide the Quick Access Toolbar
- Change Expand/Collapse Group Settings
- Large Message stuck in Outbox
Show or Hide the Quick Access Toolbar
The Insider builds of Office 365 give the user the option of hiding the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT), and its hidden by default for some users.
To show the Quick Access Toolbar again, open File > Options > Quick Access Tool bar. At the bottom of the dialog, add a check to Show Quick Access Toolbar and choose your desired Toolbar Position.
It will be in the current channel in a few weeks, but Current Channel users can remove all of the commands from the QAT now, which is almost the same as hiding it, since hiding the QAT does not reduce the size of the title bar.
Change Expand/Collapse Group Settings
A user had a question about the date groups: “I close Yesterday, Tuesday, Monday, etc., in my inbox or any folder but when I go back to the folder all the groups are opened again. I just want the latest / todays tab open.”
This is a view setting. Open View tab > View Settings > Groups and change the Expand/Collapse default setting. The choices are All Expanded, All Collapsed, or As Last Viewed.
If your choice doesn’t "stick", try saving the view as a new view and applying it to all folders. When you customize the default view, it is easily reset, either by opening a folder that uses the original view or by clicking the Reset View button.
Tip: If you need to quickly expand or collapse all groups, you can do that from the View tab. Look for the Expand/collapse command to on the right of Arrangement gallery.
Large Message stuck in Outbox
A user wanted to know how to solve this problem: I sent an email with a large attachment, and it is stuck in my Outbox. I restarted Outlook app many times, as well as restarted my computer. No luck. Do you have any suggestions?
Yes, I have a couple of suggestions. But first, did the message send or is it too large to send?
The first thing to try: Set Outlook to work offline then wait several minutes (or longer) or restart Outlook in Safe mode. If the message is really large, it can take a long time for Outlook to stop trying to send it. Rebooting the computer will force Outlook to stop trying to send it. Try to delete the message. If it was too large to send, use Shift + Delete to permanently delete it.
If you can’t delete the message in Offline mode and you use an IMAP account or an Exchange server account that is in cached mode, rename the IMAP ost file and let Outlook create a new one.
1. Warning: if you have Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks in “this computer only” folders, export them to a pst or CSV.
2. Right click on the top of the IMAP data file (your email address in the folder pane) and select Open file Location.
3. Then close Outlook.
4. In File Explorer, rename the ost file.
5. Restart Outlook.
If you use POP you will need to use MFCMAPI to delete the message. The basic steps are in this article, except you’ll delete the stuck message from the Outbox folder.
