An Office 2011 for Mac user would like to connect a SharePoint calendar to Outlook 2011 but when he tried using the feature "Connect to Outlook" to link Outlook 2011 to the calendar he received the following error message:
Link to Outlook command does not work with Mac Outlook

This control is currently disabled. You might not have the right permission level to use this, you might need to select an object or item, or the control might not work in this context.

Doing the same thing in Windows works perfectly.

The reason it works perfectly in Windows is because the ActiveX controls and stssync protocol that provide this feature are supported only in Windows and not on Mac's. Sharepoint uses an ActiveX control, owssupp.dll, and while the site is accessible in a web browser without this control installed, it's needed to provide the connection to Outlook.

In Windows, clicking the Connect to Outlook button connects Sharepoint to Outlook using a url that begins with the stssync protocol (stssync://sts/?ver=1.1&type=calendar&cmd=add-folder...). The stssync protocol is not supported on Mac or by Outlook 2011.

I have the same issue except I am on a Windows 7 PC (64 bit) and using the IE 11 browser. I am a farm admin so I know I have all permissions required. Do you have any idea of why this would be happening in my situation?
