An Office 365 user wanted to know how to open shared mailboxes in Outlook on the Web:
I use Office 365 OWA and want to open a Shared Mailbox under my mailbox every time I log into OWA, just like I could in older versions of Exchange OWA. Was this capability removed?
No, it wasn't removed, but finding the right menu is less obvious with the mailbox folder list collapsed under "More >".
Most people easily find the menu to open a shared mailbox in a new browser tab - click on the user photo in the upper right corner and select Open another mailbox then type the name of the mailbox you want to open. Click Open to open the mailbox in a new tab.
If you want to open the shared mailbox in the folder list under your folders, follow these steps:
- Click on More to expand the folder list.
- Right click on your mailbox name.
- Select Add Shared folder
- Type the mailbox name in the field. If the correct account doesn't come up as you begin typing, click Search directory button.
- Select the account and click Add.
The shared mailbox will be listed at the end of the folder list.
Which way is better? If you want or need the mailbox always in the folder list, use the first method to add the shared folder. If you need it occasionally or prefer to keep the shared mailbox separate from your mailbox, use the second method and open it in a new browser tab.
You will need to have full access rights to the mailbox in order to show it in Outlook on the Web's folder pane.
