View more events in the monthly calendar
When you have a several events on a date and use the month view in Outlook for Windows, you’ll see little triangle icons to indicate there are more events that aren’t shown. If you click the icon, it takes you to the day view, were you can see all events.
If you want to see all events in the month view, you need to turn off the ribbon and maximize the window. doing this might get you another appointment or two showing.
Or you can drag to select 2 or 3 weeks in the small navigation calendar on the left. This view is not persistent – when you leave the calendar and come back, you’ll need to reselect the weeks.
What about Outlook on the web and Outlook for Mac? In either app, you can use the Task pane to see the events for a specific date. Or make the window taller. (You can show the To-do bar in the calendar in Outlook for Windows too.)
In Outlook on the web (and Outlook Pre), the task pane always displays and shows the events scheduled for the selected date.
In Outlook for Mac, click the Show Task Pane button on the upper right, next to the view selector. This works like the To-do bar in Outlook for Windows, and you need to select a date in the calendar at the top of the Task pane to see the events on s specific date.
Outlook 2019: Yellow Highlight on Flagged Messages
A recent update for Office 2019 enabled the option to display a yellow background on flagged messages, but did not enable the option to turn it off. Oops.
Users with a subscription to Microsoft 365 can turn the flag highlight off or on in File > Options > Mail. At the very bottom of the Mail page is the option to Highlight flagged items in the message list.
Outlook 2019 / 2021 users who don't have the option to turn the yellow highlight of, can turn it off by adding HighlightFlaggedMessageListItems to the registry.
1. Start typing regedit on the start menu and when the Registry Editor comes up, open it.
2. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Office > 16.0 > Outlook > Preferences
3. Right click on Preferences on the right side and choose New > DWORD.
4. Paste HighlightFlaggedMessageListItems as the DWORD name, press enter. Off (no yellow) is 0 which is the default value.
If you later decide you want the yellow background, change the value to 1 or delete the entry.
Fixed: Outlook and OneNote 2013 RT
If you are one of the 6 people still using a Surface RT, Microsoft released an update on September 12 to fix the error message that came up after the August 8 2023 security updates. It should be installed automatically, but if it was not installed automatically, check for updates then reboot.
