Classic Outlook missing from new computers
Users discovered that the Office installer used on new computers is missing Outlook.
When the users look for it in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\, they find all of the other Office apps but Outlook.exe is missing. (If you use 32-bit Office, it should be here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\.)
If you purchased a new computer and classic Outlook is missing when you run the preinstalled software, you can download it from this link:
You can't open classic Outlook on a new Windows PC.
View To-Do tasks in Calendar
A user had a problem:
I created several tasks in To-Do each with a certain Due date. But when I open the Calendar, I don’t see my Tasks.
How can I see my due tasks created in MS To Do in new Outlook Calendar? I need this function in new Outlook. It's incredible such a basic functionality is not available.
In classic Outlook desktop, you can select View > Daily Task List > then Normal to display the tasks list at the bottom of the daily or weeks calendar, based on the due date. New Outlook is Outlook on the web in an app framework. It doesn't have a task list at the bottom of the calendar.
But, as in classic Outlook, new Outlook has a To-Do panel that displays calendar and/or tasks on the right side (in all modules).
Click the My Day button the title bar (has a calendar icon with a checkmark) to show the My Day page on the right. Unlike in classic Outlook, you need to show the calendar or To-Do separately, clicking a tab at the top to switch.
When in the calendar module, the events for today are in a panel on the right. You can hide the upcoming appointments panel by clicking on the expand / collapse button at the bottom. These events are also available on the Calendar tab of My Day
Reminder: Connected Accounts going away July 1
When Microsoft removed connected accounts from Outlook.com accounts not using the feature back in May 2021, they said anyone using connected accounts would keep them, but due to changes around the Microsoft cloud services, Microsoft is disabling Connected Accounts for anyone still using them.
The Additional Account feature available to Microsoft 365 Personal or Family accounts is also being removed by the end of the month. It only supported Gmail accounts and has been a bit buggy lately.
If you prefer using the Outlook.com interface to read your mail, you can add the accounts to new Outlook. While its not quite the same as connected accounts (each mailbox will be separate), it has the same interface as Outlook on the web.
Forwarding mail to Outlook.com is also an option, although it’s not one I recommend now that more domains are using SPF and DMARC to identify potentially spoofed emails and drop them.
