Outlook.com Premium Mailboxes: Now 100GB
Earlier this week I was helping a client who had problems with their Outlook.com account in Outlook and was surprised to see their mailbox quota at 100GB. I thought it might be a bug, but Microsoft confirmed they were upgrading all premium Outlook.com mailboxes to 100GB quota this week.
You can check your mailbox quota here: https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/options/general/storage. I haven't heard if the upgrade is complete, but if you have a premium Outlook.com account and you still have 50GB quota, give it a few more days.
Users with Personal or Family subscriptions won’t have issues using all 100GB mailbox (other than not having that much mail), unless they are using most of their 1TB OneDrive. Most of of these users won't need to worry about archiving mail to make room for more mail.
Users with the Microsoft 365 Basic subscription, which includes premium Outlook and 100 GB OneDrive won’t be able to use the full 100GB of the mailbox, especially if they send and receive a lot of attachments, as attachments also count against the OneDrive space. For more information, see How does Microsoft storage work? - Microsoft Support
Free accounts remain at 15 GB mailbox, unless it has a recently expired Microsoft 365 subscription, then it might have 100GB mailbox for a short while (ok, months). However, with a 5 GB OneDrive, they won’t be able to use the full mailbox.
Outlook.com Error 400 Bad Request with linked Google account
A user writes: “Outlook.com is not working with a linked Gmail account. When I click the Google icon in the top left corner, it brings up an Error 400 page.”
The user is asking about a feature available to users with a Microsoft 365 subscription. They can add a Google account to Outlook on the web as an additional mailbox. This adds a Google icon in the left navigation bar, just above the Mail icon and opens the Google account in the Outlook on the web interface.
To add a Google mailbox to Outlook on the web, switch to the View tab > View settings > Premium > Features to add an additional mailbox. Note that it only supports Google accounts and only one account.
It’s my experience that this is a login issue. On one computer where it seems the account credentials are never saved, I have no problems accessing my Google mailbox. On my other computer, where credentials are saved, I get the 400 Error when I try to log in.
The solution: set the browser not to save cookies for that account.
Another possible solution: Remove the Google account from the Outlook email app on mobile devices – if you use the account on multiple mobile devices, choose the option to remove from all devices if asked. Then add the account back after removing it from all mobile devices. This clears the account’s cache from the Microsoft Cloud.
Sorting the Sent folder
A user who only uses Outlook on the web wanted to know how to sort his sent folder by the To field.
Unfortunately, you cannot properly sort the Sent folder by the To field. At least not in a usable way. While you can sort by the To field when you are in the single line view (the reading pane is tuned off or on the bottom) but it doesn't actually sort by the To field.
It will group by the Sender (if you use multiple aliases or different devices) but the To field will not be sorted by the recipient field, it will be ordered by sent date.
Outlook desktop – classic Outlook as its now called – can sort and group by the To field. It’s one of the sort options on the Filter button above the message list.
