ReliefJet Essentials for Outlook is a set of more than 160 tools for performing a wide range of tasks in Outlook: processing email messages, contacts, appointments, meetings, tasks and other Outlook items.
Today's Highlights:
Outlook in the Windows Store
As if we don't have enough Office versions and builds, we can add one more to the list. Joining the Retail/Perpetual license (Pro and Student!), the consumer and business subscriptions, and the various update channels, we now have a Windows Store version.
It is starting to show up on client computers, preinstalled by OEMs on new computers and is available in the Microsoft Store. How do you know which version you have? Look at the File, Office Account, About Outlook. What is after the version number? The store versions will have "Windows Store".
While it is an installed version of Office, just like "click to run", it is available either as the full Office suite or individual apps to Office 365 Home and Personal subscribers, there are some differences between this installation and the version available in Office.com. The installation path is typical for store apps, in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\, the location of the ost files, autodicover and other files formerly in the %localappdata% path are now under C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\. Unlike the Office.com installation, users will be able to install only the apps they use; they won't have to install the entire suite.
The profile is stored in a hidden registry key at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Profiles_AppX. (The entire HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0 path is hidden.) The Control panel, Mail applet is gone; users will open the Manage Profile dialog from the File, Account Settings dialog.
Not surprisingly, some addins work with it and some don’t, including iCloud (constant repair iCloud error) and CompanionLink (error: can't find data file).
One thing I have learned from working with clients who had it preinstalled: if Office is pre-installed, do not download it from Office.com unless you uninstall the pre-installed version first. The Store installation is not listed in Setting’s Add or Remove Programs. You’ll need to right click on the shortcuts in the Start menu and choose Uninstall.

Do you want to use Clutter?
A client emailed me a couple of weeks ago with a problem. Clutter was turned off in her tenant and she made do with Focused Inbox, although she preferred Clutter, because it moved the less important mail to another folder. Then the IT consultant her employer hired convinced the company to drop Office 365 software subscriptions in favor of retail perpetual licenses. When they switched out her software, she lost the Focused Inbox too, as Focused Inbox is only available in build 1711 and up.
Fortunately for my client, Clutter can be turned back on temporarily in Office 365 business and enterprise mailboxes, but it will be retired for good in two years, on January 31, 2020. Clutter is no longer available in Outlook.com accounts.
To turn Clutter back on, log into Outlook on the web at Outlook.office365.com
- Select Settings (gear), and under Your app settings at the bottom of the page, select Mail, then on the left under Layout, select Focused Inbox.
- Choose Don't sort messages.
- Refresh your browser.
- Clutter should now be an option under Mail’s Automatic processing section.
- Enable it again. The Clutter folder will appear in Outlook on the web and sync down to Outlook shortly.
January bugs: Fixed
The January 9 update had a few bugs, many of which are now fixed in Outlook 2016. (Outlook 2013’s fixes may be a week or so behind.) Missing attachments when forwarding plain text messages and meeting location missing bugs were fixed last week.
Many of the remaining bugs are fixed in 1712 (Build 8827.2179), which came out yesterday. If it is not yet installed, open Outlook and choose File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now.
The issue where overlaying multiple calendars caused future events to be hidden is fixed. Also fixed in this update is the To-Do Bar bug, where tasks don’t display properly when using a group by date view, All mailbox search and Find Related not showing results.
