Buggy Updates
I have a couple of bugs to report on this week, both introduced in the January updates. On a positive note, the issue where users were unable to forward plain text messages containing attachments has been resolved. See January 22, 2018, update for Outlook 2016 (KB4011123) for the update.
Microsoft keeps a running list of issues affecting recently released updates at Fixes or workarounds for recent issues in Outlook for Windows. Check it first when Outlook misbehaves after an update is installed.
Disappearing To-Do's
Several users noticed their tasks disappeared in the To-Do Bar and To-Do List.
Suddenly items on my To-Do-List disappeared. Some tasks are shown but others appear as blank lines. In the To-Do List, the subjects are blank.
Flagging a message causes erratic behavior in viewing the To Do List, with nothing showing under Today except a lot of blank entries. Tasks for today are no longer visible in the list - although they can still be seen when looking at the Tasks page.
This bug affects all users with more than one data file in their profile. If the data files are pst files, the problem only occurs if the pst is enabled for reminders. (If an email account is delivering mail to a pst, it is automatically enabled for reminders.)
There a couple of workarounds you can use to see your tasks again:
You can turn off the option to automatically group by a field. You can group by Category or Folder (any arrangment that does not group by a date). If you need to group by the Start or Due date, open View Settings, Group By. Untick Automatically group by arrangement and select Due Date in Group items by selector.
To change the view on the Task list in the To-do Bar, right click on the row above the tasks that reads “Arrange by” and choose a different arrangement or choose View settings to customize the view.
Flagged emails in pst file corrupt to do list
Search is Broken (again)
Instant Search is not working for some users, specifically, the All Mailbox search returns no results. Only users who don’t view mail groups by conversation are affected. If you like the conversation view, All Mailbox search works fine.
The Current Folder and Current Mailbox search scopes work fine, regardless of the conversation view setting.
To group by conversations, switch to the View tab and tick Show as Conversations.
Multiple Time Zone Display in Outlook for Mac?
An Outlook for Mac user wanted to know if it was possible to display multiple time zones in the Outlook Calendar, like you can in the windows version.
Unfortunately, currently Outlook for Mac does not support multiple time zones in the calendar.
