New Outlook now has the option to import EML files. While this was initially added so former Windows Mail users who exported their mail before switching to new Outlook would not lose the messages (and can import into new Outlook), it's available for anyone who has *.EML files they want imported into new Outlook.
Features:
- Only EML files can be imported, not classic Outlook's *.MSG files, and you can’t pick and choose which files to import. Select the folder where the EML files are and new Outlook imports the entire folder.
- If your EML files are sorted into subfolders, you need to import each folder separately.
- You can import the mail into either Outlook.com or IMAP accounts. The imported mail will sync back to your mail server.
If your mailbox size is limited, you need to verify there is sufficient space for the imported email.
The import feature is at View tab > View settings > General > Import. (If it is not in your Outlook yet, it is coming soon.)
After clicking the Start Import button:
- Click Browse button to select the folder you want to import.
- If you have more than one email account in new Outlook, choose the account you want to import the mail into.
- Choose the folder you want to import it into. I recommend making a new folder for the import.
Note: Messages in Classic Outlook's MSG format are not supported for importing into new Outlook, only EML files.
