Office 365 Home Subscription Drawing
Today was the last day to join the mailing list and be entered in the drawing to win a copy of Office 365 Home. The random number generator picked Eileen B as the first winner.
The good news for everyone else: I have some additional copies of Office 365 Home and picked a second winner today: Sandra M.
I’ll give 2 more copies out at the end of January 2020. You don’t need to do anything to be entered (other than stay subscribed to this newsletter); all active subscribers will be included in the drawing.
Force all appointments to one calendar
Anyone with multiple Exchange or Outlook.com mailboxes in Outlook will have this problem: multiple calendars and appointments scattered between different calendars.
As long as a calendar exists in the mailbox or data file, Outlook will use it for meetings sent to the address that uses that data file. Any new events created while viewing mail in that account will go on that calendar too. You can’t avoid it with exchange mailboxes; if you are using a POP or IMAP account, you could use MFCMAPI to delete the calendar folder, leaving just one calendar in your profile.
If you can’t avoid having more than one calendar folder in your profile, your options are limited to moving the appointments – instead of using Save and Close, use File > Move to folder then select the default calendar or use a macro to copy events created on the other calendars to the default calendar. If you are using Office 365 mailboxes, set up a Flow to create a copy on the default calendar.
The macro to copy appointments to a second calendar is at VBA: Copy New Appointments to Another Calendar
Two Copies of Sent Messages
I’m hearing from a number of users that they have two copies of sent items, one of which is marked unread. All of the users had one thing in common: their mail was hosted on Yahoo servers.
Yahoo recently began saving copies of messages sent through their servers, just as Gmail does. Because Outlook also saves a copy by default, you end up with 2 copies.
The solution: open the IMAP account settings and tick the option for “Don't save copies of sent items”. This only applies to messages sent through this account.
If you change the global setting to "Save copies of messages in the Sent Items folder" in File > Options > Mail, it will apply to all of your email accounts.

The Get Add-ins button is disabled
I’ve had a lot of questions from users with Office 365 subscriptions wondering why the Get Add-ins button is missing or disabled in Outlook.
The button only works with Office 365 business and Outlook.com mailboxes. The Office add-ins are not supported with POP and IMAP accounts. You can use COM Add-ins with POP and IMAP accounts, it’s only the Office add-ins that are not available as they are tied to the mailbox, not your subscription.
