It's been a slow week in the Outlook world, which is not unusual in the summer months. It beats having bugs in the monthly updates. ?
Hide Messages Flagged for a Future Date
A user wanted to know how to hide flagged messages until their reminder date. Basically, Snooze the messages (which is available in Outlook on the web and in Outlook mobile but not Outlook on windows.)
You can use a custom view to mimic Snoozing. While not perfect - it uses the Flag Due Date, not the reminder time - it does a pretty good job and at this time, is the best Outlook desktop can do.
1. On the View tab, click View Settings, then filter.
2. On the Advanced tab, select Due Date from the Field menu (or type it in).
3. The condition will be "on or before", type Tomorrow in the Value field then click Add to List.
4. Add a second Due Date criteria, with "does not exist" as the condition and add to list.
5. Close the view settings dialog to Apply the view to the folder.
6. On the Change View button, choose Save Current View as a New View.
You can reset the default view (for those times when you need to see all messages) then apply the Saved view to your mailbox.
Schedule Email to Send later in Outlook on the web
A user mentioned that Outlook on the web needed an option to schedule email to send later.
It's already there, for more than a year, for both personal and business accounts. To use, click Send > Send Later and choose a date and time. Choose Custom time and type in the time field if you need a lime that is not listed.
When you send later, the message is moved to the Drafts folder until it is sent. But like the Outlook desktop feature, it has a problem with the sent date. When you look at the message in the Sent folder, the message list shows the time it was actually sent while the reading pane shows the time you hit Send. The recipient will see the sent time as the time you hit Send.
Managing Categories in Family Calendar
A user had a question about categories in the Family Calendar in Outlook.com. The family makes heavy use of the Family calendar. They want to use categories to color-code appointments by user but they can't add or manage categories in Outlook on the web. All events are a bland gray color. He wanted to know if there is a way to enable categories in the Family Calendar.
Yes, but only if the mailbox is added to Outlook desktop. Then users can categorize appointments in the Family Calendar, using the categories in their Categories list.
If another family member adds a category to an event and the category is not on the other family member's master category list, they'll see the category name but no category color, until they add the category to their master category list. Outlook on the web users will see the category name but no color.
Folder Name Missing from Title bar
Newer builds of Outlook do not show the current folder name in the title bar, replacing it with the search field. This makes it different to quickly see which folder you're working in.
While I don't have a workaround or solution for this problem, I recommend voting for and commenting on this suggestion:
