Changes Coming to Outlook.com
Microsoft will be updating security in Office 365, allowing only email clients that use modern authentication to connect using Exchange services. This change affects Outlook.com accounts as well as Office 365 business accounts.
Starting July 25th, 2022, some older versions of Outlook for Windows will be blocked from connecting to Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 email services, and others will require updates to maintain connectivity.
Outlook 2019, Outlook 2021, and Outlook 365 will continue to work as they are now.
Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016 will need to have all updates installed.
Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 will not be able to connect using Microsoft Exchange services after the changes. If users want to keep syncing calendar and contacts with Outlook, they will need to upgrade to a new version of Outlook.
For Outlook.com accounts, POP and IMAP will continue to work, only business accounts will be required to use a POP or IMAP client that support modern authentication starting in October.
Upcoming changes to Outlook.com may impact some legacy versions of Outlook for Windows
New Calendar View
Outlook's calendar has a new search results view. It's looks similar to the calendar view in the To-Do bar, with a reading pane on the bottom so you can see the meeting details without opening the item.
It's about as useful as the To-Do bar calendar for managing your events. The right-click menu doesn't work. You can't delete items from the search results. You can't do anything with the appointments and meetings in the search results except open them.
To get a usable list view, change the search scope to All Calendar Items then search. If you have more than one calendar, you can switch the scope to Current folder and Outlook will show only the results from the select Calendar, still in list view.
Archive an Archive Mailbox to PST?
An administrator wanted to know if he could archive a user's Online Archive mailbox to a pst.
You can export the mailbox to a pst, just as you can any other mailbox, but cannot use AutoArchive, which is disabled when archive mailboxes are enabled. After you export the online archive, you'll need delete everything in the Archive mailbox yourself (or using PowerShell.)
Exporting is easy, but will be slow because the mailbox is not cached locally. You won't be able to use Outlook while its archiving and should set the computer to stay awake if you aren't going to be on the computer while its exporting.
The process is easy: Go to File > Open & Export > Export to a file, choosing Outlook PST. Select the online archive folder and make sure Subfolders is checked. Remember: because it's online (not cached), it can take a while, especially if archive is large.
If you need to export the user's mailbox, check the sync settings. Open File > Account Settings > Account Settings. Double-click the account – the sync slider needs to be set to All. If you don't change it, export will only export what is cached locally. If you change it, restart Outlook and after synchronization is complete, export. You will need to manually delete the messages after exporting them.
Yahoo Mail Corrupted in Outlook
Users are reporting to some messages sent to or from Yahoo.com addresses are corrupt when downloaded to Outlook or Windows Mail.
Meeting requests seem to be affected more often than mail.
At this time I don't have a solution or know for sure if the problem is on Yahoo's side or Microsoft's side. The problem started around the time they upgraded their mail servers.
