Update GoDaddy Accounts for Office 365
GoDaddy is in the process of moving email accounts to Office 365 servers and once your account is moved, you'll need to update Outlook to connect to the new server.
It’s recommended that users remove the account and add it back using auto account setup to add it as a Microsoft Exchange account. This syncs and stores your calendar and contacts on the server and they will sync to cell phones or Outlook on other computers.
Warning: If you are using IMAP and have calendar, contacts, and tasks in folders named "this computer only", you will need to export those folders before removing the account from Outlook or you will lose the contents of those folders. (Mail folders in IMAP and all folders in POP accounts are safe.)
You can continue to use POP or IMAP if you want to. If you choose to stick with POP or IMAP all you need to do is change the server names and settings to use Office 365 servers.
The incoming server name is outlook.office365.com. If you are currently using TLS encryption, you only need to change the server name. If you are using the insecure ports, you’ll need to switch to 995 for POP or 993 for IMAP accounts, with TLS encryption.
The Outlook SMTP server is smtp.office365.com, port 587 and STARTTLS encryption.
TIP: The server names are also available in Outlook on the web's Settings (gear icon) > View all Outlook settings > Mail > Sync Email.
To change the POP or IMAP and SMTP server settings in current versions of Outlook:
- Click on the File tab and select the account from the menu at the top.
- Click Account Settings > Server Settings.
- Under Incoming server, use outlook.office365.com (for either POP or IMAP)
- Under Outgoing (SMTP) server, use smtp.office365.com. Change the port to 587 and the Encryption method to STARTTLS
If you have the accounts setup on a mobile device, the process is the same. I highly recommend removing the account and adding it back using auto account setup, so the account is added as Exchange. Choose Office 365 or Microsoft Exchange if you need to choose an account type. Using Exchange account on the mobile device will sync your calendar and contacts.
Choosing the account to use for a mail merge
When you have more than one account in Outlook and mail merge to email, the messages will be sent using the account that “owns” the default data file, not the account that is set as the default email address.
You have two options:
- Change the default data file to the account you want to use then restart Outlook. The only issue using this method is the default data file has calendar, contacts, and tasks folders. This isn’t a problem if you are using an Exchange account since all Exchange accounts have these special folders. If you are using IMAP accounts, the special folders will be created in the IMAP data file.
- Create a new profile with only the account you want to use to send the mail merge. This ensures you won’t accidentally send the messages from the wrong account.
Multiple accounts and Meeting Requests
A user had a question: "Outlook has my Exchange account as the default calendar account, so that when I accept an appointment to an IMAP or POP account, the response is sent from my Exchange address, not from the email address the invitation was sent to."
This is normal Outlook behavior when the other accounts don’t have a calendar folder in their data file but you can’t just create a calendar folder to the data file – Outlook needs to create the calendar.
To create the calendar folder, open File > Account Settings > Account Settings and select the Data File tab. You can try setting the other account’s data file as the default data file, but will probably need to remove the Exchange account first (from the Email accounts tab). After you set the IMAP data file as default, restart Outlook. This creates a calendar in the IMAP data file and you can add the Exchange account back in your profile.
If you need calendars in more than one account, set the data files as default before adding the Exchange account back. Remember to restart Outlook after setting a data file as default, before setting the next one as default.
After you have a calendar folder in the data file, when you respond to a meeting request, the response will be sent from the correct address but it will be on a separate calendar. Use Outlook's Calendar Overlay to view both at once, but if you need the events on one calendar, you’ll need to move or copy the event to the calendar in your Exchange mailbox.
TIP: If you don’t want multiple calendars (and contacts & tasks), you can work around this for meeting responses by choosing “Edit the response before sending” and choose the account you want to respond from. You can choose the From account when you send invitations but it will be sent From the account on behalf of the Exchange account.
