Today's Highlights:
Outlook: Coming Soon
Outlook 365 subscribers using the Beta version had a new Coming Soon switch appear this week. With Coming Soon switched on, users preview the new vertical navigation bar features. While it’s a work in progress and is likely to be tweaked before it hits the Current Channel, it’s a peak into the future.
The navigation buttons that were on the bottom of the folder pane, either as icons or words (Mail, Calendar, Tasks, People) is now a vertical bar on the left, just like in Outlook on the web. The other Office apps can be added to the navigation bar. Unlike in Outlook on the web, users can choose which Office applications to pin to the navigation bar.
If you’re annoyed when the peeks pop up as you move the mouse over them, you’ll be able to deselect “Show the Peek on Hover”. (That is the first thing I turned off.)
I’m not completely sold on the vertical navigation bar but I can get used to it. My main complaint is that the buttons start at the very top left, where the File tab is now. If you are a creature of habit and slide the mouse without really looking, you’ll hit the File tab instead of the Home tab. Or the Mail module button instead of the File tab.
If you want to try it, you'll need the beta builds. See

Message List Icons
A user asked “I have two accounts setup in Outlook. In one account, I have the Mark as Read/Unread icon appear when I select a message. In the other account, I only have Flag and Delete. How do I fix this?”
Those buttons are Quick Actions. In earlier versions of Outlook, the Quick Actions were preset and you could not change them, but new versions of Outlook let the user choose which two actions they want in the message list, or none.
Customizable Quick Actions are a feature available only in Microsoft Exchange accounts (including Outlook.com); you can have different quick actions in each Microsoft Exchange account.
Your one account either has None or Delete as one of the actions. Right click on the icons and choose Set Quick Actions. You can select two actions - but delete is always present, so if you select Delete, you'll only have two options shown when you hover over the message list.
IMAP and POP accounts, or PST files, have just two preset Quick Actions – Flag and Delete.

What does "View on Server" button do?
A user wondered what was the purpose of the "View on Server" button. It was grayed out in his Outlook.
That button is on shown with Microsoft Exchange accounts, including Outlook.com. When you use cached mode and have the sync slider set to less than All, you can click it to view the older messages that are on the server. The messages will sync down to Outlook temporarily in Online mode.
