We're back...
EMO is back... after a long hiatus as we worked on restoring the server mailing list server following a hard drive failure. We changed server passwords a few weeks earlier and forgot to check to make sure the database back up was working and the backups were copied to another drive so it took longer to recover. Oops.
As a welcome back, we're going to give away a subscription to Office 365 Home. All current subscribers will be entered in the drawing automatically.
Move or Copy Events to another Calendar
An Outlook user wanted to know why Outlook did not have an option to copy an appointment to a new calendar.
It does. We’ve always been able to copy events to new date and times or to a different calendar, using one of several methods.
Method 1. Copy and paste. Select the event, Ctrl+C to copy, Ctrl+V to paste in place, or select a different date or calendar then paste.
Method 2: Right-click, drag and drop to a new date or time. You can either drag between calendars visible in the view or drag to the calendar folder in the folder list. When you drag to a different calendar, you can left-click and drag to create a copy on the other calendar. You can left- or right-click and drag recurring events, as either will give you the option of copy the single event or the series.
Method 3: Use the Move to or Copy to Folder command (on the File menu). You can use this command with existing appointments or use it in place of Save and Close when you create a new event and want to save it on different calendar. If you use these commands often, add the Copy to Folder command to the Quick Access Toolbar or the ribbon to
Method 4: When you are viewing an event on a calendar that is not the default calendar in your mailbox, you can use the Copy to Calendar command to save a copy on your default calendar.
All of the above options are specific to Outlook for Windows. You can duplicate events in Outlook on the web but dragging events to another calendar moves the event rather than copy it. To duplicate an appointment: Open the appointment and choose Duplicate event from the toolbar. Look for the Duplicate Event command under the 3 dots in the toolbar.
In Outlook on MacOS, you can move events by dragging them to a different calendar but can’t drag to copy.
New Office 365 and Outlook.com Calendar Sharing!
As previously announced, Microsoft is working on improvements to calendar sharing in Office 365 and the changes are finally rolling out to users.
Shared calendars now use REST to sync. Updates on shared calendars should sync to all devices immediately after added to the calendar.
The best news is shared Exchange calendars are now editable in Outlook desktop, this includes Outlook.com calendars shared between Outlook.com users and the Family calendar (a Microsoft account feature).
Users will need Outlook version 1907 installed and need to enable Turn on shared calendar improvements (preview) in Exchange account’s Advanced settings. To enable it, go to File, Account Settings, open the account settings dialog. Double click on the account and click More Settings. then Advanced and tick the option for Turn on shared calendar improvements (preview).
Users will also need to re-share the calendar to enable the new shared features.

@Mentions: Customize the name format
A user has a problem with @mention feature – his company uses Last name, First name format in the global address list. When using @mentions, the name shows up as @Smith, John. While he can backspace to remove the last name, it's extra effort because he needs to move the insertion to before the first name and it’s extra effort.
The name used in the @mention comes from Outlook’s Contacts and the GAL. If you have a contact for the person you are @mentioning, the email display name is used for the @mention.
Better would be an option in Outlook to set the @mention format. Some companies might want to use just the first name, others will prefer first names and giving them that option would be great.
Scan to Email using VBA
A user was looking for a way to insert scanned images into email. to make it easier to an elderly relative to scan and send images, using a one touch function to scan and send.
You can do this using the Windows Image Acquisition Library to call up the scanner then save the scan and insert it into a new message. You can set the scanner options (DPI and photo size) using VBA or bring up the scanner options dialog. Although the scanner dialog adds a second click, it easy to adjust the options for each scan,.
