Today's Highlights:
Can’t open Office apps?
I'm some what surprised that we are still seeing a number of users affected by this bug as it was fixed several days ago. The issue? Some users are receiving an error message when they try to open any Office application:
"We're sorry, but Office App has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Office App will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now?"
Repair is pointless and does not fix this problem. It’s a bug in current version, caused Microsoft Malware Protection Engine version 1.15700.*.
To fix, install definition updates for Windows Defender Antivirus and other Microsoft antimalware and restart the computer.
- Type ‘Check for Updates’ on the start menu and open it when it comes up.
- Click Check for Updates and install any that are found.
- Reboot the computer.

Buttons to open folders
A user had a problem: too many favorite folders that made the Favorites less than useful.
I have several email accounts and I put each Inbox into the Favorites list. It would make this list too long to put in each account's Junk mail and Deleted items folder into Favorites and scrolling the folder list is time consuming. I would like a custom tab in the ribbon and a group named for each email account, with buttons for each folder.
While you can’t add buttons for specific folders, you can use a macro and add buttons for the macros to the ribbon. I have a macro to open folders at Shortcuts to open Outlook folders. At the end of the article is a macro that can be used to open many folders.
Calendar shortcuts
A user asked how to make a view that displayed 8 days in the day view. While its not possible to set the number of days to display in a custom view, you can quickly select any number between 1 and 10 using a keyboard shortcut: Alt+n, where n is 0 to 9 (0 is 10 days).
For more keyboard shortcuts, see Keyboard shortcuts for Outlook
If you want a two week version of the monthly view, drag your mouse over two weeks in the navigation calendar. See View a Two Week Calendar for screenshots and a tutorial.
