Using Rules with Exchange Mailboxes
With so many people new to Microsoft Exchange mailboxes using Outlook.com or Office 365 Exchange Online, it’s worth explaining how Rules work.
Rules in an Exchange account are stored in the mailbox on the server and are accessible in any installation of Outlook and in Outlook on the web. If you delete your profile or get a new computer, your rules will be available in the new profile. (Note that some rules may not be visible or editable in all clients. It depends on which client they were created in. You’ll see a message in the Rules dialog in Outlook on the web or in Outlook 2016 if any rules are affected.)
With Exchange account accounts, you’ll either have client-only or server-side rules. Server rules run as the messages arrive on the server, whether Outlook is open or closed. These rules can be created or edited in Outlook on the web.
Client-only rules run only when Outlook is open. When you create a rule that contains actions or conditions that only Outlook can process, such as assigning a flag for follow up or a category, Outlook will warn you that the rule only runs when Outlook is open. This is a client-only rule.
When you create a rule that uses a file specific to the local machine, it’s a client-only rule and is marked “(for this computer)” when viewed on other computers. This is because the files it needs are stored on the local computer. This would apply to rules that move messages to a local pst file or reply using a template stored the computer. If you want to rule to work on each computer, you can copy and edit the rule.
Changing Passwords in Outlook 2016
With the new, simplified (dumbed down) account dialog, users don’t know how to change their password.
The obvious way to update the password is to wait for Outlook to ask for it, which it should do on the next send and receive.
If you don’t want to wait, you won’t be able to change it in the Account settings dialog. The newest revision of the account settings dialog does not include the password field. Clicking the Reset Mail setting link should bring up the network password dialog,
If you prefer to see all of the account settings, go to File, Account Settings menu and choose Manage Profiles. This opens the familiar Mail profiles dialog from the Control panel and it uses the old (original) account dialog. Not only can you change the password, you can update server names and ports here too.
Why did they dumb down the dialog? Because many connection problems are due to user error in entering the account information. Autodiscover generally the problem and contains the correct server configuration.
Tip: Outlook 2016 users can use the command line outlook.exe /manageprofiles
to open the Mail profiles dialog.
Autocomplete on Outlook for Mac
An Outlook for Mac user wanted to know how to turn off autocomplete.
“I looked in Preferences but cannot find where to disable the Autocomplete email addresses feature."
Unfortunately, it’s not available in the Mac version. (Seriously!) You can vote for the suggestion at UserVoice (and it needs a lot of votes).

Office Insider Fast and OneNote Desktop
The latest build of Office Insider Fast (Version 1809, Build 10823.20000) uninstalls OneNote 2016. If you need this version, you’ll need to roll back to the targeted monthly channel for the time being.
