Fix: Outlook Meetings are Read-only

After installing a security update, Outlook meeting bodies are read-only. This was a bug and Microsoft is restoring the ability to edit received meetings with a new Edit Meeting button that you can add to the Quick Access Toolbar or the Ribbon.

The Edit Meeting button was added to the Office Beta channel starting with Version 2311 build 17029.20000, with the expected release to the current channel later in the month (barring unexpected issues with it.)

If you have version 2311 installed, you can add the Edit Meeting button to the Meeting form:

1. Open a meeting or appointment (or a new appointment form)

2. Open the Options dialog: using File > Options, or right-click on the end of the ribbon and choose Customize the Ribbon. Or from the Quick Access Toolbar overflow > More commands.

3. In the Options dialog, choose either Customize Ribbon or Quick Access Toolbar.

4. In “Choose commands from” on the left, select All Commands then find Edit Meeting. (if you click in the commands list, you can type E to jump down the list.)

5. Click Add >> to add it to ribbon or Quick Access Toolbar.

When you want to add notes a meeting, open it and click the Edit meeting button. When you close the message using the X, you'll be asked if you want to save the changes. Or, save a step and add the Save & Close command to the ribbon or Quick Access Toolbar too.

Time is running out for Outlook.com Personalized Addresses

If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription and want to use a custom domain name in Outlook.com, time is running out to set it up (or to buy a subscription to use it.) After November 30, custom domains will not be available to add to Outlook.com but accounts with custom domain names set up will continue to work as long as the subscription is valid.

If you want to use a personalized address, you need a Microsoft 365 subscription: Family, Personal, or Basic (100 GB OneDrive, Outlook Premium, and NO software). You need to keep the subscription; if you let it expire, you will lose the ability to use custom domains.

Daylight Time Reminder

While there are fewer issues and weird anomalies when the clocks “fall back”, there may be minor issues with the time display in Outlook if you start the week on Sunday and have events with users in other times zones. When you open the appointment, you will see the correct time.

If your calendar times seem off, verify you are using the correct time zone and DST settings for your location. Don’t use a time zone with the same offset that doesn't honor DST or whose Daylight to Standard time changes on a different date. That will mess your calendar up.

There are display issues when the clocks “spring ahead”, but these are easily fixed by starting the week on Monday or using the day or workweek view for the first week.
