Find and Delete (or Move) Old Messages
A user wanted to know how to delete all messages received prior to 2020.
It's easy. Just use the following as the search criteria and change the search scope to All folders or Current Mailbox, if needed.
received>1/1/2020
This works in both Outlook desktop software and in Outlook on the web and finds all mail received before Jan 1 2020. Then you just need to select all and delete.
In Outlook desktop software, use Ctrl+A to select all then click Delete on the keyboard. If you want to move the messages to a folder, right-click and choose Move to folder or left-click and drag to the folder.
In Outlook on the web click on the dot to the left of "Results" at the top of the list to select all then click Delete.
Outlook.com Premium Account Retirement
When Microsoft first moved Outlook.com to Office 365 servers, they tested a custom domain program linked to their Ad-Free Outlook (also known as Hotmail Plus) program for about a year before replacing it with the current custom domain program that requires an Microsoft Office 365 software subscription.
When they first cancelled that custom domain program, users could keep their domains and service but last year, decided to close it completely and require Microsoft 365 subscriptions to continue.
The end is near and anyone still in this program needs to switch by the end of February 2021.
Users who had Microsoft register the domain will need to take ownership of that domain and transfer it to GoDaddy.
Users who purchased their own domain only need to purchase Microsoft 365 to continue using their personalized email address. The domain does not need to be transferred to GoDaddy, as the DNS records are already pointing to the Office 365 servers.
For more information, see Personalized email addresses in Outlook.com Premium are being retired - Outlook (microsoft.com)
If you are interested in using your own domain with your Microsoft 365 Family or Personal subscription, see Get a personalized email address in Microsoft 365 - Outlook
Note that only the subscription owner can set up a custom domain. Family members can set up addresses using that domain.
Images in Contacts or Tasks are (still) misaligned
As I mentioned in a previous issue of EMO, when you paste an image in the body of a Contact or Task then reopen the task, the image will appear blank or misaligned.
Microsoft released a fix late last year that did not actually fix it. It is now fixed in Version 2101 Build 13609.10000, which is expected to be in the Current Channel update, which will be released next week (the last week of January 2021).
If you are affected by this bug, a user discovered a workaround that prevents the images from being messed up while we wait for the fix.
After you paste the image, right click on the image, then on Style button and choose a frame. If none of the frames are suitable, choose Format Picture (or use the Format Picture context ribbon) and add a shadow. Note: adding just a border does not work – the image will be blank of misaligned when you reopen the task; you need to use a shadow or pre-set style.
