Family Calendar is missing in Outlook.com
Microsoft made some changes to the Family Calendar in Outlook.com, converting it from a shared calendar in family members mailbox to an Office Group calendar. The family calendar is now under "Groups", as "Your family". All the events were moved to the new group calendar during the migration.
I have a few problems with this change (many users have the same problems):
- Outlook.com groups don’t sync to Outlook desktop, so the calendar is not available in Outlook desktop versions.
- It’s also not available on smartphone if you use the native calendar app.
- The Family calendar is only available in Outlook on the web and the Outlook mobile app.
Why the change? The old version of the calendar was recently retired in an upgrade to a new version that allows users to send invites and works better with the new group and mailbox. All of the events from the old calendar were moved to the new calendar.

Change the display name in Outlook
When a user sends email, the recipient sees only the user’s email address, not his name. He asked how to change it.
I’m trying to get my name to appear as the sender and not my e-mail address on outgoing e-mails. I've attempted all the usual procedures via the File > Account Settings > Account Name and Sync Settings > IMAP Account Settings > General Settings > Your Name (which displays my name) > Account Name (my Gmail address) Then, if I go to Account Settings > Account Settings > the E-Mail tab displays my e-mail address > IMAP/SMTP (send from this account by default). The Data Files tab displays my e-mail address, followed by the file path to my Outlook Folder. I even tried to change the "Account Name" field to my name instead of my e-mail address, but nothing changes in the Sender field.
It sounds like there are two issues here: what you see in the From field and what the recipient sees in the From field.
You can change the display name that the recipient sees in the From field in File > Account Settings > Account Settings. Double click on the account and change the Your name field.
When you select the account in the from field, it will show the Account name, which is the email address by default. If you want to see the display name in the From field, change the account name field.
The data file filename will be the email address if Outlook created the data file (which it will if you use an IMAP or Exchange account). If you change the Account name, Outlook displays that name in the Name column. The data file name in the navigation pane in Outlook will eventually update to be the account name, but may take a few days and reboots.
Note that if you use an Outlook.com, Office 365, or Exchange account, you can’t change the display name in Outlook. Outlook gets the information from the Active Directory.
Events overlap in the Calendar view
A user had a problem: they use 15 minutes appointments that begin at 5 minutes after the hour. But the appointments are on the calendar side-by-side, appearing to be in the same time period.
This behavior happens when your appointments are shorter than the time scale. If you use the 30-minute time scale and create 15-minute appointments, two appointments will “overlap” in the day or week views.
In Outlook desktop, you can change the scale to as low as 5 minutes. In Outlook on the web, you have the choice or 15- or 30-minute scales. Windows 10 calendar has a 30-minute scale.
To change the scale in Outlook desktop, right click on the time scale on the left and choose a different time scale.
Change the view for To-Do Bar Tasks
A user wanted to know how to change the view on the To-Do Bar’s tasks He tried change the view on the task folder and on the To-Do List.
The Task list on the To-do bar has it’s own view. You can customize it by right-clicking on the field names (Arrange by: row) and choosing View settings. The Task bar only supports one view; to clear it, you need to go back into View settings to reset the view.
The Task peek that flies out of the navigation buttons uses a separate view too and can be customized using the same method.
