The (good) Autocomplete list is back!
In the April 12 2018 issue of EMO, I recommended readers vote on a suggestion at outlook.uservoice.com to add an option to revert the autocomplete list to the old, simple list style instead of the newer Recent/Other Suggestions list.
I’m happy to say that Microsoft listened. You can now use a registry key to go back to the old-style list of names. Not only is it a simple list, but it displays at least 40 entries in the autocomplete list.
To enable the old-style autocomplete list, edit this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options
DWORD: DisableAutoCompleteUpdate
Value: 1
Send From different addresses in a mail merge
An Outlook user had a question:
I'm trying to send a mail merge from multiple people. I was wondering if there was a way to choose the sender address based on the recipient email address? I'm using an Excel file as the source of the merge and the sender names associated with the recipients in the excel file so I can add a field after the closing line in the document to have the senders name appear
No, Outlook can’t do this, at least not as a native feature within the mail merge. Mail merges will always be sent from the default email account. However, it is possible if you use a macro to handle the merge, not the mail merge wizard.
A macro can send from different From addresses – either addresses your account has send as permission on or from different email accounts in your profiles.
To use, create a message in Outlook, entering unique keywords in place of merge fields then save it as an Outlook template. Run the macro to set the From, To, and Subject fields as well as to replace the unique keywords and send the message.

No search results for POP and IMAP accounts (Fixed)
Search in Outlook has long had problems, especially for POP and IMAP users – specifically, no search results were returned. The latest problem affected some users beginning with version 16.0.9001.2171. While most affected users used either POP or IMAP accounts, some Exchange users also had no search results returned.
To make search work, users needed to disable Windows Desktop Search in Outlook and fall back to Outlook’s slow, native search.
There is now a solution, one that I’m hoping will solve the search problems once and for all.
The fix:
If you set the registry key to disable Desktop Search, delete the PreventIndexingOutlook value from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search
If you are using Outlook 32-bit, verify these registry keys exist:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{F8E61EDD-EA25-484e-AC8A-7447F2AAE2A9}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID\{F8E61EDD-EA25-484e-AC8A-7447F2AAE2A9}
Next, delete these two keys if they exist (my clients had the first key only)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F8E61EDD-EA25-484e-AC8A-7447F2AAE2A9}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{F8E61EDD-EA25-484e-AC8A-7447F2AAE2A9}
Close Outlook, then restart the Windows Search service (wsearch) in Tasks Manager, Services.
Restart Outlook and wait for indexing to complete..
If you use 64-bit Outlook, the steps are the same but the keys are different. You'll need to verify these keys exist:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F8E61EDD-EA25-484e-AC8A-7447F2AAE2A9}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{F8E61EDD-EA25-484e-AC8A-7447F2AAE2A9}
And delete these keys if they exist:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{F8E61EDD-EA25-484e-AC8A-7447F2AAE2A9}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID\{F8E61EDD-EA25-484e-AC8A-7447F2AAE2A9}
Close Outlook, restart the Windows Search service (wsearch) in Tasks Manager. Restart Outlook and wait for indexing to complete.

Calendar print style
A user wanted to know if she could change the format of the Calendar Agenda template:
I use the weekly agenda style to print my calendar. I can get Saturday and Sunday at the top of the page, as I need them to be, but is there a way to minimize their box size, instead of reducing Friday, at the bottom?
The last two days of the week will always be together at the bottom of the page... but if you only print work days, and have no more than 6 days selected as workdays, the cells will be larger.
To change the print setup, click Print Options, then make sure agenda format is selected and click page Setup. Print only workdays is on the bottom left of the dialog.
