Welcome to 2024. Hoping everyone has a safe and happy holiday season!
Drag to Calendar no longer works
One of my favorite classic Outlook features is the ability to drag an appointment or meeting to another calendar to create a copy.
How it works: with 2 calendars side-by-side, drag an appointment or meeting to the other calendar. You don't need to drop it on the date; drop it anywhere on the calendar to make a copy. It’s quick, it’s easy.
Following a recent update, users may not be able to drag meetings to another Microsoft Exchange calendar. A dialog box comes up that says “Copying meetings is not supported.” Bummer.
There is a workaround: right-click and drag to the calendar folder on the left, not to the open calendar. You can choose to move or copy the meeting and whether to accept it or make a copy. If you left-click and drag, you’ll move the meeting. So far, this is still working for every meeting I’ve tested it on.
Bugs, bugs, and more bugs
I’ve seen a lot of bugs come up in the Outlook apps and outlook.com the past couple of weeks. It’s as if everyone at Microsoft went on vacation and the servers fell apart.
Some issues seemed to have cleared up but I'm still seeing complaints for two issues:
Users are having problems adding IMAP and outlook.com accounts to the new Outlook. Affected users need to use Help > Contact Support to report it.
The connected account page in Outlook.com settings > Mail > Sync email is not loading. Only users with connected accounts are affected. (Only users who used connected accounts before May 2021 still have the feature.) Microsoft is working on this but I don’t have an estimate of when it will be fixed. It's not a page most people would visit much, but it seems a lot of connected accounts need the password refreshed,

How to get support for Outlook.com
Keep up with new features in new Outlook
Microsoft published a new article recently with a long list of features they are working on for new Outlook and a short list of new features or improvements already available.
Many of the items on the ‘coming’ list were long known to be in the works – things like offline support and support for pst files.
New Outlook has a long way to go before I’d want to use it as my main email client. It's missing too many features that are in classic Outlook, especially in Calendar and Contacts. And no automation options.

Outlook receives a message that has an attachment that is named "not supported calendar message.ics"
This article describes a scenario where Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 receive a message that contains an attachment that has the file name "not supported calendar message.ics." This occurs when third-party email clients or Lotus Notes clients send a recurring meeting and use a custom recurrence pattern that Outlook does not support. The .ics attachments contain iCalendar data, also referred to as iCal.
