This is the last issue of Exchange Messaging Outlook for 2023. Have a safe and happy holiday season! See you in January.
Changes to Safe & Blocked Lists Won’t Save
This week’s bug is with the Safe & Blocked Lists in Outlook.com and new Outlook app.
Adding or deleting entries from the safe and blocked sender lists are not saved, and yes, the users are clicking Save. As of now, I don't have information on when it will be fixed.
Microsoft 365 Work or School accounts are not affected, only the consumer accounts. And no, it’s not because safe and blocked lists are a premium feature. Both free and premium (subscription) accounts are affected.
When its working, you can edit the safe and blocked list in View settings (on the View tab) > Mail > Junk Email.
Viewing Sender Contact Details
When you hover over the sender or recipient address in an email in Outlook, a small contact card pops up. If you have a contact for the person, you’ll see details from the contact card.
If you don’t have a contact for this person, you’ll only see their email address and display name. Clicking on the 3 dots on the card will have Add to contacts, while people already in your contacts will have Edit contact instead.
Occasionally Outlook for Windows has a problem detecting the contact but adding it as a contact should trigger Outlook’s duplicate contact checker (if you have it enabled in file > Options > Contacts).
When you use Search People or search contacts using All Contact items scope, the search will include entries in the auto complete list. If the entry is from autocomplete, you’ll see only the name and address, with the option to Add to Outlook Contacts.
TIP: if you see duplicated contacts after doing a search, check the search scope (to the left of the search field. If it’s on All Contact items, the duplicates could be from the auto complete list.
Appointments are on Two Lines in Monthly Calendar.
A user was complaining because some of his appointments were in two lines in the monthly view in Outlook for Windows.
When the appointment subject is long and there is room to show two lines on that date, Outlook will use two lines. If the subject is short, or you have several appointments on that date, the appointments will use a single line.
If you only want one line for every appointment, you could edit the subject to shorten it, or add more appointments on that date. You can also adjust the window size so its not as tall, or make the calendar as wide as possible.
Did you know…
You can right click on an email and choose Find Related > Messages from Sender to find all messages from that sender address? When you are cleaning up your mailbox, it’s a quick way to find older mail from news and other sites. Select all (Ctrl+A) and delete, or right click and choose Move to.
Also on the right-click content menu are options to create rules to move messages from the sender’s address. If you want to use other conditions in the rule, click Create Rule instead to open a dialog with other options.
