Last reviewed on May 1, 2019     2 Comments

Applies to: Outlook 2007

Hotfix for this problem: Description of the Office Outlook 2007 hotfix package (Outlook-x-none.msp): April 26, 2011

After installing KB2509470, you may experience problems printing or previewing messages or other Outlook items using the Memo style. You'll receive the following error:

There is a problem with the selected printer. You might need to reinstall this printer. Try again, or use a different printer.

Plain Text messages may also be preceded by the following error message:

Outlook has encountered a problem. You will not be able to undo this action once it is completed. Do you want to continue?

Additionally, Outlook's CPU usage may spike to 100%.

The Outlook Team is aware of this issue and have removed the update from availability. Until a new update is released, you can uninstall the update or use System Restore to revert to a time before the update was installed.

If you choose to leave the update installed, you can save the message as an htm or txt file then print the saved file. When you save and print, you won't have the message header on the printout.

If you need the header, use the following method. Note that you may need to repeat the steps each time you want to print something.

1. Close Outlook.

2. Locate OutlPrnt and delete it or rename it to outlprnt.old. Outlook will create a new file using default settings the next time you print and Outlook item.

In Windows Vista and 7/8, OutPrnt is at C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\Windows

In Windows XP it's at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

To quickly jump to the correct folder, type or copy & paste the following text into the address bar of Windows Explorer then press Enter:

%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

3. Restart Outlook

You may need to repeat these steps each time you print.

Users report that this fix only works for one print or preview and you’ll have to repeat the process each time you print. Some users report that restarting Outlook is sufficient, and you can print as long as you avoid using Print Preview.

Did you delete the outlprnt file? That's always the first step with printing problems.
