Microsoft Exchange Server Usage, Reporting, and Analysis Tools

Inappropriate use of email has led organizations into damaging legal battles and embarrassing leaks of information. In order fully understand the actual usage of their Microsoft Exchange email infrastructure, administrators often need to use third party tools to monitor and report on traffic usage. The following tools offer Exchange Server and email usage reports. A number of these tools also provide reports on all aspects of network usage.

Archive One Access Security Manager   Archive One Access Security Manager can monitor and report on all the access rights and permission settings within an Exchange system. Archive One Access Security Manager provides administrators with control and verification of Exchange Mailbox and public folder access rights and permissions. Allows you to manage security for mailboxes folders and public folders in Exchange: providing integrity for your mail systems before compromised data is committed to archive. It allows you to detect ‘shadow users’; those users who might gain access (accidentally or otherwise) to the mailboxes of others.
Availability Manager for Exchange   Quest Availability Manager for Exchange provides the ability to detect when an email outage has occurred, and rapidly switch users automatically to a defined Exchange server/store where they will continue to have send/receive mail capabilities.
ExRay for Exchange   Web based monitoring for Exchange server. ExRay monitors the health, availability, and delivery times of your system. It provides easy access to critical information about your email system’s performance and alerts managers or administrators to potential problems. Supports Exchange, Novell GroupWise or Lotus Domino.
GFI MailEssentials for Exchange   Anti-spam, disclaimers (with variables), archiving Internet mail, Internet mail usage reports. Includes a POP downloader and personalized server-based autoreplies that can include attachments and tracking numbers. Can archive to an ODBC database.
IMI Mailbox Statistics   IMI Mailbox Statistics for Microsoft Exchange Server is small utility for Exchange Admin to get, print and export (inventory) Mailbox resources statistics, intended to cover the lack of print capabilities in the current version of the Exchange Admin.
MailAnalyzer   MailAnalyzer supports Exchange 2003 as well as older versions of Exchange such as Exchange 2000 and 5.5. Versions are available for Firewalls and other servers.
MailMarshal   Content scanner for Exchange Server; features include virus blocking (with third-party anti-virus products), relay blocking, disclaimers, usage reports. Free trial available.
