Group Internet Mail Services

The programs listed under Services do not require Microsoft Exchange Server. Many do not work with Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 in Internet Mail Only mode, because they work solely as MAPI transports. FAXmaker for Networks/SMTP 2000, WinFax and Zetafax are exceptions.

POP/SMTP Servers

If you run TCP/IP on your network, you can install a free or inexpensive POP/SMTP server, often combined with a proxy server. See our EMO newsletter article on The POP server solution. Then, everyone in the office can connect to that local server with their personal Internet service.

WorkgroupMail, listed below, operates as a POP/SMTP server.

GeniusConnect   Provides database connectivity to Outlook and Exchange, allowing easy access to contact, calendar and customer information stored in your database. Tasks can also be created in Outlook based on events in your database. Ability to Synchronize both ways means information can be updated or backed-up quickly. Offers complete flexibility by allowing connectivity to any standard database through ODBC.
Java System Messaging Server   Can work with POP3/SMTP or IMAP4 clients or operate with the included CDC IMAP4 MAPI transport for Outlook/Exchange/Windows Messaging. Also includes LDAP directory support and the Boldon James LDAP MAPI provider. (Formerly Sun Internet Mail Server)
Kinesphere Interchange for Microsoft Mail   Adds SMTP/POP3 capabilities to a workgroup or Microsoft Mail postoffice
MailBeamer   Adds SMTP/POP3 capabilities to a workgroup or Microsoft Mail postoffice. Enables POP clients to access the postoffice.
WorkgroupMail   Workgroup mail server with integrated Internet connection. Can work with POP3/SMTP clients or operate as a MAPI transport for Outlook/Exchange/Windows Messaging. Version 6.0 is POP only, without the MAPI transport, and includes a content filter so you can block unwanted attachments.
