ReliefJet Essentials for Outlook is a set of more than 160 tools for performing a wide range of tasks in Outlook: processing email messages, contacts, appointments, meetings, tasks and other Outlook items.

ReliefJet Essentials for Outlook

Today's Highlights:

  • Processing Meeting Requests
  • Outlook Tasks are saved to the Inbox
  • Tasks: Remove from List or Delete?
  • Processing Meeting Requests
  • June 2017 Non-Security Office Updates
  • "An unexpected error has occurred" Error message when sending email

Outlook Tasks are saved to the Inbox

The issue: When you select a Contact then use More, Assign Task to create a task then cancel the assignment and save the task, it is saved in the Inbox.

The solution: Use File, Move to Folder or just drag it to the Tasks folder in the navigation pane to get it out of the Inbox and into a Task folder.

Why would you want to cancel the assignment and keep the task? Because it links the contact to the task. If you are showing the Contacts field, the contact is listed at the bottom of the task form, otherwise the contact is listed in File, Properties. This field is a holdover from older versions that supported Activities. You can add the Contacts field to the view to see which tasks are associated with which contacts.

Tasks: Remove from List or Delete?

What is the difference between "Remove from List" and "Delete" in Outlook's To-Do List? It seems redundant to me.

The source of your confusion is both Delete and Remove from List are available for Tasks on the Home ribbon (but not on the right click menu) and with actual Tasks, they both do the same thing - delete the selected task.

They are not redundant with flagged messages on the To-Do List. You'll use Remove from List to remove follow up flags from flagged Outlook items; it's the same as Clear Flag (on the right-click Follow up menu) when you use it on flagged items. If you delete the flagged message from the To-do list, you'll delete the message from your mailbox too.

How can you see tasks you have removed?

When you delete or remove a task from the list, the task is moved to the Deleted Items folder. Turn off the reading pane then sort by the icon column to see all deleted tasks together.

If you need to keep your task history, mark the Tasks complete and use a filtered view to hide completed tasks and either the Completed view or Simple list to view them. Or create a customized view.

If you remove a flag from a message using Clear flag or Remove from List, you won't have any record of the item being previously flagged. If you need to keep a history of flagged messages, mark the message flag Complete and use a filtered view in the To-Do List to hide the completed items.

Processing Meeting Requests

A user wanted to accept meetings and leave a copy of the meeting invitation in his Inbox.

The default behavior is to delete meeting requests from the Inbox after you accept the meeting. However, if you are in your calendar and accept the meeting, the request in your Inbox won't be deleted.

The above applies to meeting requests others send to you. If you want to change how Outlook handles meeting responses, go to File, Options, Mail and look in the Tracking section (close to the bottom of the dialog). The last tracking option on the list tells Outlook whether or not to move tracking responses after the meeting is updated. The default is to move the tracking messages to the Deleted Items folder, but you can change it to use any folder.

June 2017 Non-Security Office Updates

The KB articles related to the non-security updates released in June 2017 for Office 2013 and Office 2016 applications and available through the Download Center and Microsoft Update are available in the following article at  Microsoft TechNet.
June 2017 Non-Security Office Update Release

These downloads are for organizations with "MSI" installations; these updates are installed automatically in Office 2675 subscription software.

"An unexpected error has occurred" Error message when sending email

Problem: When you send an email to a Contact Group, you receive an error message: An unexpected error has occurred.

Until it is fixed, click the + icon to expand the Contact group. You'll be able to send the email once the group is expanded. (Outlook will expand contact groups as it sends the message, so nothing is lost.)
