Last reviewed on January 10, 2015     No Comments

The Active Directory is supposed to make it easy to control users and groups, but managing it can be difficult. The tools found on this page are for end users to update their own records.

Administrator tools are located at Active Directory Management Tools

Tools in the Spotlight

Directify

Directify gives the typical end user the ability to update their directory information (telephone number, office location etc) using their web browser browser. Object creation as well as updating group membership is possible as well. All LDAP directories are supported.

IMI GAL Modify

IMI GAL Modify is a small utility for Exchange Admin to modify the Mailbox attributes on MS Exchange Server 5.5. Works on MS Windows 95/98/Me, allowing the admin to modify the mailboxes from a desktop machine.

Tools

AD Photo Edit

AD Photo Edit is a user friendly (and free) program for adding, removing and editing these images. If you are using Outlook 2010 then you have probably noticed the ability for Outlook to display an image/photo for each user or contact in your Active Directory domain. However, the only method that MS provide you with for actually importing images into the AD attribute that Outlook 2010 pulls these images from is a powershell cmdlet that comes with Exchange 2010. This cmdlet also limits you to selecting images that are less than 10 KB even though the thumbnailPhoto attribute in AD is only limited to 100 KB.

Adaxes

Adaxes is a solution for Active Directory management and automation that also allows to control and enhance Office 365 workflow, i.e. automate licenses assignment and revoking procedures, execute rule-based user updates, manage Exchange Online mailboxes, etc. - all that from a single web interface.

ADSelfService Plus

ADSelfService Plus is an end-user product offering password self-service, Active Directory Self-Service Update, People Search, and Password Expiry Notifier (a very useful tool for VPN users).

CodeTwo Active Directory Photos

CodeTwo Active Directory Photos will let you upload photographs to Active Directory and manage them easily using a light and intuitive user interface. This freeware application has been designed to make managing scores of users' images straightforward and fast.

Directory Manager

Directory Manager is a customizable web application that allows a designated user to update other user's information in the Active Directory through an easy-to-use tool. The administrator designates which attributes can be updated. Drop-down lists, format validation, search filtering, and photo uploads (for use in Outlook 2010/2013 and Lync) can all be configured. Other features include the ability to unlock/enable/disable user accounts and password resets.

Directory Update

Directory Update is a "self-service" web application that allows a user to update their own information in the Active Directory and thus in the Global Address List (GAL). The web interface is customizable so that a user can provide only valid information (such as city, department, title) and the telephone number format can be validated. Other features include photo uploads, SMTP email notification of changes, auditing, and optional forgot-password and resource domain modules.

Password Control/Bulk Password Control/Bulk Modify

For helpdesk staff its a simple interface for resetting AD passwords, disabling, enabling and unlocking accounts. For system admins, its a bulk password reset tool. Bulk Modify tool to change attribute values for many user accounts.

PeoplePassword

PeoplePassword provides the most secure and flexible web-based self-service password reset tool for Windows in the industry. We have built PeoplePassword not only to be extremely intuitive for the end user to enroll and recover their Active Directory password, but also very powerful for the administrator to control security through built-in and customized profiles, questions, and question lists specific to a profile. PeoplePassword brings it all together for businesses of all sizes to implement a secure self-service password reset tool.
