Following the installation of the November 10 2015 updates, Windows 7 users may have problems with Outlook crashing when they view HTML messages.
If you look in the Event Viewer, you’ll see Event ID 1000 in the Application log.
Faulting application name: Outlook.exe
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll
Version: 6.1.7601.19045
Fault offset: 0x000ced0b or 0x000c3f83
In addition to Outlook crashing, other issues include problems working in SharePoint Sites or Outlook on the Web. Some users are reporting problems logging into Windows.
This is caused by Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3097877). Outlook should work correctly after this update is removed.
An updated Security Update was released that fixes the Outlook problem. You can either let Windows Update install it on its next pass or run Windows update and hide KB3097877 so it is not reinstalled immediately. If you hide it, unhide it in a few days.
Uninstall the Update
To uninstall the updates, open Control Panel and find Programs and Features. Click Uninstall an update on the left. Find Security Update for Microsoft windows (KB3097877). Select it and click Uninstall then reboot Windows.
If you want to hide it, open Control Panel and find Windows Update. Click Check for Updates. Find Security Update for Microsoft windows (KB3097877), right click on it and choose Hide. This will prevent it from being reinstalled until you unhide it.
