After update Office, every time you open Outlook, you receive an error message:
Something is wrong with one of your data files and Outlook needs to close. Outlook might be able to fix your file. Click OK to run the Inbox Repair Tool.
The Inbox Repair Tool (ScanPST) opens, appears to complete the file repair and yet, the error message won't go away.
If you see this message once, it's likely the data file needs repaired. If it comes up multiple times in a row, it may be a bug in Office Version 2005 Build 12827.20268 or higher.
Microsoft has a registry fix available for the bug
- Open the Registry editor by right-clicking on the Windows Start button and choosing Run or press Windows key + R to open the Run command.
- Type Regedit and press Enter
- Navigate to the registry path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\PST
Tip: You can copy the link and paste it in the address field at the top of the registry editor. - Right click on and delete these two registry values, if they exist:
LastCorruptStore
PromptRepair - Restart Outlook
If you don't want to edit the registry yourself, you can download and run this .reg file to delete the two values
Hi Diane,

Hi Diane,
Am having this issue where I have deleted the 2 registry keys mentioned above and each time I restart outlook, I get the error message saying something is wrong with outlook. When I check the registry, the 2 keys deleted are back (LastCorruptStore and Prompt repair keys). I have changed the value for Promptrepair from 1 to 0 but still I keep having the same issue. Am not sure why they keep appearing back in the registry and stopping outlook from opening smoothly. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Outlook will add them if it detects a corrupt store.
do you have all updates installed? This bug was fixed.
Do you get an error message?
Yes the error message says "something is wrong with one of your data files and outlook need to close..." How do I resolve the corrupt store if it's detecting one?
Thanks.
I forgot to mention that I have installed all updates.
Thanks.
Hi Diane,
Am following up with my last post and will like to ask if I can delete an old outlook archive that the repair tool normally points to when it comes up? Please advice.
Thanks.
After deleting the registry values and restarting outlook a few times the registry values popped back up and the error continued reappearing. What fixed that for me was changing the PromptRepair value from 1 to 0.
Finally this works! There was only the LastCorrupStore in my folder and after removing it I also made a new outlook profile and after that OULOOK started again. I tried so much other step also the official Microsoft recommended step, remove, install office and so on...
Thank-you so much Diane =} it worked! I'm so happy. I bookmarked this website. YOU ROCK!
NO TENGO ESA CARPETA PST
(I DON'T HAVE THAT PST FOLDER)
If the key does not exist, you need to add it.
Si la clave no existe, debe agregarla.
