| | | Office 2010 Click-to-Run | The “Click to Run” version (C2R) is virtualized and can run side-by-side with your current installation which makes it great for trials but there are some limitations: Outlook 2010 C2R will not use add-ins and external programs (including sync software)will not see Outlook C2R; for example, mailto’s will not use Outlook 2010 because it is not registered as nor can it be the default email client. You can switch between either version at any time but cannot use both at the same time. While the limitations are annoying for regular use, it’s workable for people who want to try Outlook or need to support Outlook 2010 but aren’t ready to move to it for daily use. (Jul 27) |

| | | Choose the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Microsoft Office | Office 2010 provides support for the 32-bit version of Office 2010 programs running on 64-bit operating systems by using WOW64, a compatibility environment provided by the operating system that allows a 32-bit application to run on a Windows 64-bit operating system. Using the 32-bit version of Office 2010 allows people to continue to use existing third-party add-ins for Office that are 32-bit. The 32-bit version of Office 2010 is the recommended option for most users, because it prevents potential compatibility issues with other 32-bit applications, specifically third-party add-ins that are available only for 32-bit operating systems.

| | | New Ways to Try and Buy Microsoft Office 2010 | Users of new PCs preloaded with Office will be able to purchase a Product Key Card containing a single license card (no DVD media) from retail stores. The key code will unlock Office and enables any one of three full versions of Office –Home & Student, Home & Business, or Professional. Additionally, Microsoft is replacing Works with a cut down version of Office called Office Starter 2010. Office Starter 2010 is a reduced-functionality, advertising-supported version of Office 2010, available only on new PCs. Office Starter 2010 gives users a simple path to upgrade to a full version of Office 2010 directly from within the product (with a product key card). For those users who want to try (or buy) Office 2010, on their current computer, they will be able to download Click-to-Run. Click-to-Run uses virtualization technology, allowing users to maintain multiple versions of Office so they can try Office 2010 side-by-side with the existing version of Office. (Oct 9) |
