If you have Microsoft Exchange 2000, your client access license
(CAL) allows you to use Outlook 2002
or any previous Outlook version without buying a separate license
for Outlook. The problem is that Microsoft doesn't tell you how to
get the Outlook 2002 CD. You can get it either by ordering an
Outlook 2002 CD or by ordering the Exchange 2000 SP2 CD set (while
it remains available).
NOTE:
Ordering the SP2 CD for $9.95 does not get you a cheap copy of
Outlook 2002 that you can immediately install anywhere. The Outlook
2002 CD is clearly labeled UNLICENSED SOFTWARE - Illegal without
separate license from Microsoft and does not include a license
key. You have to get the key from the Volume License folks, as
described in Step 3 below. And to do that, you'll need Exchange
2000 and Exchange CAL license information.
Bart Kile was kind enough to share his experience in ordering
an Outlook 2002 CD. These instructions assume that you are a Open or
Select volume
license customer.
