Several users who recently upgraded to Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013 wondered what happened to the reminder bell:
The Calendar reminder bell is not displayed on the month view. It's on the other views. How do I turn it on for the month view?
Microsoft turned off the bell to give a cleaner appearance. You can turn it back on for day, week, and schedule views in File, Options, Calendar - look for 'Show bell icon on calendar for appointments and meetings with reminders' but you cannot display the bell in the monthly calendar.
Really!!!! This is the kind of thing that just drives me nuts. What makes MS think they know better than I do how my calendar should appear????? MS is rife w/ this sort of autocratic software writing and it is part of what gives MS the image of being clunky and cumbersome and fussy and inefficient...exactly the opposite of what one hopes their software will be...zippy and fluid and clever and adaptable and flexible and considerate mostly of me, the user!!!! I'm afraid it's why we all resonated so w/ the PC guy vs. apple guy on those old ads-even if you never used an apple in your whole life you felt the PC portrayal was so right on, that apple must be better.
It's a shame that MS makes these types of changes and does not allow for the user to set it back to the older versions. In this case, no bell on the month.
