To set the default fonts for WordMail

WordMail -- the use of Microsoft Word as the editor in Microsoft Outlook -- ignores the font settings in Tools | Options | Mail Format in Outlook. Instead, it has its own method for setting fonts.

Outlook 2000 with Word 2000 | Outlook 97 and Outlook 98 | More Information

Outlook 2000 with Word 2000

  1. Start a new message with WordMail.
  2. Choose Tools | Options.
  3. Switch to the General tab, and click E-mail Options.
  4. Switch to the Personal Stationery tab.
  5. Click each of the Fonts buttons to set the font for new and reply/forward messages.

The font choices are stored in Word's global Normal.dot template. Make sure you answer Yes when you see a dialog asking whether you want to keep changes made to that template.

To change the font used when you view a plain text message with WordMail in Office 2000, follow the instructions below for Outlook 97 and Outlook 98.

I believe these instructions should also work for Outlook 2000 if you have Word 97, not Word 2000, installed:
    1. Open your WordMail template (Email.dot, for example) directly in Word.
    2. Choose Format | Styles
    3. Change the font for the Normal style. This is used both for new messages and added text when you reply to or forward a message.
    4. Save the template
