Windows XP SP2 and Outlook Web Access (OWA)

Windows XP SP2 includes a number of security enhancements that can affect OWA. The most noticeable issue is caused by the pop-up blocker preventing some of OWAs windows from opening. This problem isn't new, it's has been a long standing problem with nearly every pop-up blocker available, but it's going to affect a lot more users now that Windows XP has a pop-up blocker enabled by default.

Steps required to insure OWA works correctly:

  1. Use the Information Bar setting to trust the OWA site all the time or temporarily.
  2. Add the OWA site to the Trusted zone in Internet Options to insure JavaScript and Active X (used for S/MIME control) work correctly.
