Using In-cell Editing

In-cell editing can be a great time saves as it allows you to edit many fields without opening the Outlook item but it can also prove to be an annoyance. When the New item row is enabled, you can create new items directly in the folder.

An Outlook user had this problem: "I'm using the Phone List view and can no longer jump to the first letter I type in when searching for a contact in the Contacts Folder. It works just like it used to if I use other views, jumping right to the first letter of the contact I type in. What happened to make this feature stop working?"

This is one of the side effects of in-cell editing - you lose the ability to navigate using the keyboard as Outlook thinks you want to edit the current item instead.

You can disable in-cell editing, however, because its a handy feature to have, you may want to make a copy the view so you can easily switch views to use it. Browse the Views menu for Define views, select the view and Copy before disabling in-cell editing using Modify, Other settings.

To disable in-cell editing for the current view, right click on the row of field names in your view, choose Customize. From the customize views dialog, click the Other settings button then remove the check from Allow In-cell editing. With this disabled, you lose the New Item row too.

Delete Stuck Reminders

We're seeing a rash of stuck reminders lately. The easiest way to get rid of these corrupt reminders is by closing Outlook and reopening it using the /cleanreminders switch. To do this, press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog. type

outlook /cleanreminders

in the field and press Ok.

Outlook Quick Tip: "Do you want to send this meeting request without a location?"

Outlook's insistence that the location in Meeting Requests be filled in annoys a lot of users.

Unfortunately, you can't disable this warning, other than by always remembering to add a location.
On a related note, the last 10 locations are saved in the dropdown and you can use the up and arrow keys to select one of the previously used locations.
