Outlook Quick Tip: Windows 7 and Go, News

A surprising number of people used the Go, News command to open the “Outlook Newsreader” (really Outlook Express in news-only mode) and now that they've upgraded to Windows 7, they can't find the News command.

The command was removed from the Go menu beginning with Outlook 2003 but users who wanted to use it to open Outlook Express or Vista Mail as newsreaders could customize the toolbar to return it to the Go menu.

However, the command is missing from the Customize dialog when Outlook is installed on Windows 7. Because Windows 7 does not include a news client and the News command doesn’t work with Windows Live Mail, Outlook doesn’t show you the command.
