Slipstick site changes

Countless hours of effort by many people have paid off with an easier to navigate, more consistent web site at http://www.slipstick.com. To celebrate, we've renamed it the Slipstick Systems Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center.

Credits: Overall site design by KNOWware (http://kware.com), additional design by Sue Mosher of Slipstick Systems, addtional graphics by Dan Augustine of Override Computer Services, page conversions by Sue Mosher and Dan Augustine.

One big change is that, by fall, we plan to phase out all the FAQs. Maintaining both FAQs and individual article pages that are easier to search is a duplication of effort that we just can't afford if we're going to continue our up-to-date coverage of Outlook and Exchange issues. We realize that some of you would rather download a single massive document than do a quick search, but it's not a practical way to maintain this kind of rapidly changing information. We do plan to highlight both the most commonly accessed and the newest solutions on the User (http://www.slipstick.com/user.htm), Administrator (http://www.slipstick.com/admin.htm) and Developer (http://www.slipstick.com/dev/index.htm) pages. That way, you'll see at a glance the "hot topics" that other people have expressed an interest in.

In addition, we've implemented the Xavatoria search engine and made a special effort to add search keywords to make it easier for you to target specific topics. Take a look at the search tips at http://www.slipstick.com/search.htm for ideas on how to get the most out of your search.

The pace of change on the site will be a little slower over the next month as we recover with a much-needed vacation. New utilities and urgent Exchange and Outlook news will still be posted, of course.

Outlook 2000 released

As I'm sure you know, Outlook 2000 is now available as part of Office 2000. I personally think it's a must-have upgrade, because of the many new features and improvements. See http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2000.htm for our lists of top features and links to detailed procedures for putting some of the newer functions into action.

Office 2000 & Outlook 2000 upgrade eligibility

If you bought Office 97 after January 1, 1999, you are eligible for a free upgrade to Office 2000; visit http://www.microsoft.com/Office/order/techguar.htm for the necessary coupon. If you bought Office 97 earlier, you can get Office 2000 at the "competitive upgrade" price. The complete list of products that qualify for a competitive upgrade is at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q210/4/37.asp.

We still don't have clear answers about Microsoft's upgrade policy for Exchange Server sites. On the one hand, we were told "...customers who have a valid Exchange CAL will have the rights to a free upgrade to Outlook 2000." However, the very small amount of information Microsoft has posted on its web site -- buried in the press releases at http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/1999/Jun99/ExchOutUpMA.htm -- indicates that only volume licensees participating in the Open and Select programs can get the upgrade. No word on whether retail purchasers of Exchange Server can get it. As we receive new information on this issue, we'll post it at the Administrators page at http://www.slipstick.com/admin.htm.

Thanks to our sponsors

The Slipstick Systems web design upgrade would not have been possible without our sponsors. These companies have been generous with their support over the past few months, and we look forward to continuing our association for some time to come. Outlook 98 availability

At the same time Outlook 2000 was released, Outlook 98 was withdrawn. Now, the only way we know to get the Outlook 98 CD is to buy one of the books that includes it. See http://www.slipstick.com/books/user.htm#ol98. We have heard from one reader that the Mastering Outlook 98 book does not include the Outlook 98 CD when you order it from amazon.co.uk in the U.K.
