Can I use both Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Outlook?

There are several issues related to using Microsoft Exchange (aka Windows Messaging) and any version of Outlook on the same computer.

I don't think you can't use Exchange/Windows Messaging at all on a computer running Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 in Internet Mail Only mode, because some key components are replaced.

For Outlook 97 and Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 in Corporate/Workgroup mode, there are forms and profile issues.

Exchange/Windows Messaging uses different forms. To make sure each program uses the correct default forms, get either Fix Forms or SwitchForms (also available in the Valupack on the Office/Outlook 97 CD) to switch back and forth between Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange forms. Read the MSKB article E-mail Forms Fix Utility to find out which one is right for you. If you are using Outlook 98, you should first install the Development Tools component, which contains the forms, then install the SwitchForms utility.

Exchange/Windows Messaging cannot display Outlook custom forms at all. It will default to one of the built-in forms.

Outlook 97 version 8.02 and later versions include an Internet E-mail service that is not compatible with Exchange/Windows Messaging. However, you cannot install both the Outlook Internet E-mail service and the older Internet Mail service that can be downloaded from Microsoft. Essentially, this makes Outlook incompatible with Exchange/Windows Messaging for accessing Internet accounts.
