If you were previously using the Microsoft Exchange
client or Windows Messaging, Exchng32.exe and other files
remain on your system. They are not removed when you
install Outlook. The following suggestions are based on
general knowledge of where Outlook components are located
and how they are installed, but should be used at your own
risk.
Outlook 2000 in
Corporate/Workgroup mode
Outlook 98 in Corporate/Workgroup

Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 in Internet Mail Only
mode

If you are
using Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 in Internet Mail Only
mode, you should be able to safely remove these Microsoft
Exchange/Windows Messaging through Control Panel |
Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup. If you are
prompted to remove shared components, answer No in
each case. |

Outlook 2000 in Corporate/Workgroup mode

Unless you
are using Microsoft Fax or running Windows 95 or Windows
NT and managing a workgroup postoffice, you should be able
to safely remove these Microsoft Exchange/Windows
Messaging through Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs |
Windows Setup. Outlook 2000 keeps its messaging
components separate from those installed by the operating
system, so it should be safe to remove all components. |

Outlook 98 in Corporate/Workgroup mode or Outlook 97

Do not remove Microsoft Exchange through Control Panel.
This is known to remove all the e-mail functionality from
Microsoft Outlook 97 and may do the same for Outlook 98.
However, it is safe to delete just the Exchng32.exe
file, if you're not planning to use Microsoft Exchange,
but leave all the other components intact. I would
recommend, though, that you leave the Exchng.32.exe file,
since it can be handy for troubleshooting. |

Outlook
97 users may want to switch the Inbox icon and shortcut on
their Windows desktop to launch Outlook instead of
Exchange and display an Outlook icon. Use the \Valupack\Patch\Chnginbx.exe
utility on the Outlook/Office CD. |
