X.400 and Telex  Services

X.400 is a very well defined messaging standard typically used for communications between different locations within organizations or between two specific organizations. For example, Microsoft Exchange Server can use X.400 to connect different sites. Some X.400 services are said to be "military-grade" because of the security they offer. For Outlook, Exchange and Windows Messaging, X.400 connections are made via MAPI transport and storage providers, which means that none of the services listed here are compatible with Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 running in Internet Mail Only mode.

Telex is an older communications technology -- still very much in use for international communications.

Tools

NEXOR Defender for Outlook   Provides X.400 and P772 military messaging support to Outlook users. Includes LDAP address book component.
P7 Connector for Microsoft Outlook   The Boldon James P7 Transport Provider allows Outlook to be directly connected to a legacy X.400 P7 Message Store. In addition the provider can be used in “free-standing” mode to support the connection of mail-enabled MAPI applications to a X.400 P7 message store.
WinTelex   Telex service for Outlook/Exchange/Windows Messaging, implemented as a MAPI transport. Does not work in Outlook 98 or 2000 Internet Mail Only mode.
